With the further development of economic globalization, the communication among countries all over the world has become increasingly frequent. Economy, politics, science and technology, and culture are all communicated through language. Since the late 1970s, China has set off a tide of craze for English. English teaching aimed to teach students the English language and enable them to have a good understanding of the target language culture, and the teaching results were obviously good within a certain period of time. However, with the development of China's economy, what we pay more attention at present is the propaganda of Chinese native culture in cross-cultural communication, making the foreigners get a better understanding of China. This thesis proposes that native culture should be integrated in current English teaching.Cultural identity refers to the sense of belonging to certain culture and incorporating oneself into the group of that culture. English teachers should enable students to understand the importance of cultural identity in cross-cultural communication. The integration of native culture in English teaching benefits the formation of students' correct attitudes, improves their competence in cross-cultural communication.This thesis adopts the questionnaire investigation method. The questions involve the aspects of necessity, motivation, awareness, attitude and expressiveness of native culture in English. The investigation aims to find out the reasons of the lack of language competence in the expressiveness of Chinese native culture in English, and propose useful suggestions to solve the problem.According to the result of the investigation, the author proposes some concrete strategies of integrating Chinese native culture in English teaching in Chinese middle schools. The strategies include the involvement of native culture in English textbooks, the adjustment of cultural awareness of English teachers and the improvement of English teachers'mastery of native culture. Concrete methods of integrating native culture in English teaching such as the method of native culture lectures, the method of contrast and translation are also included in the suggestions. The author also provides a trial compilation of a whole unit for developing native culture in English teaching in expectation of a good integration of Chinese native culture in English teaching.
