| Textbooks are the main body of teaching materials, and also an important tool forstudents to gain the systematic knowledge. In order to stimulate students’ interest inlearning English, and achieve teaching objectives ultimately, the best way is toappropriately integrate Chinese cultural elements into English textbooks, combiningChinese students living and learning practical. We all know that only knowing little aboutthe native culture, you cannot well understand and master the culture of the targetlanguage.Considering the importance of English textbooks in English learning, the authorchooses junior middle school textbook Go for it published by People’s Education Press in2007as the study subject. The paper utilizes Cortazzi and Jin’s theory on culture inEnglish textbooks and Byram’s criteria for textbooks evaluation as the theoreticalfoundation, sometimes, combining with the native culture study abroad and at home. Thisthesis is to solve the question: whether there is a native culture fatigue phenomenon in Gofor it. If have, what suggestions could be made? The study adopts the combination ofqualitative and quantitative analysis method. At first, there is an investigation into nativeculture’s distribution in junior middle school textbook with content analysis method, inorder to investigate the proportion of native culture; then adopts the questionnaireinvestigation method. The questions involve the aspects of necessity, motivation,awareness, attitude and expressiveness of native culture in English. The results show that:(1) Junior high school EFL learners were difficult to express in Eng1ish the contentsabout native culture appropriately;(2) The input of Chinese culture in Go for it was inadequate;(3) The Chinese cultural content in the textbooks is not all-inclusive.This paper is divided into five parts as follows: Chapter1will serve as anintroduction, which states the importance of analysis of the cultural content in textbooks.Chapter2will review the definition of the native culture, the current state of nativeculture researches at home and abroad, and the importance of integrating native culture inEnglish teaching. Chapter3will analyze the cultural content according Byram andCortazzi&Jin. Chapter4will introduce the culture tests and questionnaires aboutcultural contents allocation in English textbooks for the students and the teachers in Pengdian No.1Middle School. Chapter5will be the conclusion. |
