Textbooks are taken serious as important learning and instructional materials so scholars both home and abroad researched them a lot. The thesis takes conceptual change theories as theoretical framework to study the common chemical textbook in Shanghai senior high schools, Shangjiban in brief.The thesis is composed of five chapters.Chapter one is an introduction, in which the research backgrounds, research questions, research methodology and significances are mentioned.Chapter two introduced what is 'conceptual change'. After literature review, the thesis states theoretical basis of conceptual change. Then the main theories of conceptual change have been expounded, as well as their advantages and disadvantages.In Chapter three, the current research situation of textbook research in the perspective of conceptual change has been introduced. Then the research meaning has been talked about.The fourth chapter is about empirical research. Students from 6 classes of 2 schools and teachers from 5 schools were surveyed with questionnaires and some of them were interviewed. The thesis analyzes the textbook of Shangjiban based on the results of survey to study whether the textbook could foster students to change their concepts.Chapter five gives summaries of the research and suggestions for better teaching, and ideas for future work as well.
