At present corporal punishment by teacher on students, that is physical violence, has been prohibited by relevant state laws. Cases that teachers make harm on students by verbal abuse have been reported quite often. However, the research on the harm caused by teacher verbal abuse is just a description of current situation, it is rarely demenstrated in the angle of psychology, not even the research on the tolerance of teacher verbal abuse.Teacher verbal abuse is a kind of action by non-legitimate speech which makes harm to students during teaching. The research investigates the prevalence of teacher verbal abuse and constructs the tolerance scale, and adopts relevant scales to survey self-esteem, personality and behavior of students. Differences of variables, such as urban and rural area, grade and sex are analyzed, and the structural equation model of variables are constructed to explore the relations of the different variables. The results show that the tolerance of teacher verbal abuse includes intrinsical, situational, disappointing and punitive dimensions. In intrinsical and situational dimension, there are significant differences in sex and grade with the score of girl is higher than boy, and there is interaction between urbal and rural areas and grade. In disappointing and punitive dimension, there are significant differences in different grades, and there is interaction between urbal and rural area and grade. Because of the situational dimension is not same, there are significant differences in the agreeable personality. The nomination of teacher verbal abuse is about 1/3 among the total surveyed students, and boys nominated are significantly more than girls . The tolerance of verbal abuse doesn't affect personality of students through self-esteem indirectly, instead, there is a direct impact on the personality. Furthermore, personality influences behavior and academic achievement of students.
