Textbooks, as learning resources and teaching tools, are the basis to attain teaching objectives and educational effect. With the reform in curriculum, China has achieved the diversification of teaching materials. Faced with different teaching materials, how to choose, how to analyze and evaluate the teaching materials in a reasonable and scientific way, becames an important issue.This study selected two sets of English textbooks which is widely used in the primary schools in Ganzhou, that is "PEP" by People's Education Press and "New standard" by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press. Three researsh methods: documentary, comparative, analytical are adopted in this study. We study the following aspects about the textbooks: language skills, language knowledge, attitudes, learning strategies and cultural awareness. What is more, we do a research to get the information about the two sets textboks in use. After that, we sum up some advantages and disadvantages of the two sets of textbooks.At the end of the study, suggestions have been given on using teaching materials for teachers, chooseing textbooks for school and education authority and refining for the editors.
