The relationship between economic development and higher education is very close. The economic crisis in 2008 makes it closer than before.It is particularly important to respond to the changing pattern of higher education during the crisis,when China's economic development structure and developmental mechanism of higher education continuously adjusting to circumstances.Firstly, economic crisis is a turning point and breakthrough in terms of higher education development model. Economic crisis is special to economic development, recession period, and higher education development is not normal. So we should pay attention to existing or potential problems of higher education development, providing the premise of probability to the survival of original model. Secondly, economic crisis is a challenge and warning to developmental model of higher education. During economic recession, higher education has largely appeared formed or forming long-term shortcomings and gaps, and strongly indicates that bad tendencies probability arisie. Finally, economic crisis is a powerful guide and predictibility to developmental mechanism of higher education. On the one hand, economic crisis is the negative period of economic development, and higher education could avoid the same phase of the crisis there. On the other hand, to cope with economic crisis, it urges us to develop models of higher education and future economic into a positive circle, so that development model of higher education would achieve the change from probability to reality.Economic crisis imapcts on higher education's development mechanism are based on macro and micro higher education development model including driving mechanism and forming mechanism. On macro-level, the influence of driving mechanism exists in developmental mechanism of higher education, which meets the needs of political development, strengthens the role of economic development, and reaffirms social responsibility of higher education and university mission duirng economic crisis. The influence of forming mechanism ranges from policies of planning model, to intervention of market forces, to the balance between social responsibility and university mission. On micro-level, the influence of driving mechanism shows in educational goals, management mechanism, teaching profession view and students studying view in universities. The influence of forming mechanism reflected in the arrangements of professional, curriculum content and academic research, and thinking of college existence. Therefore, developmental mechanism of higher education emerges the trend of great development of content-type ending, private universities becoming an important component, academic freedom and institutional voluntary strengthening, and university evaluation of standards changing. At the same time universities have more levels of social responsibility, limited social responsibility, and "Integration but Independent" with social development.So economic crisis turns the survival of higher education development model into a predictable manner and confirmed contingent, in view of both theory (university mission) and practice (social responsibility). Therefore, in times of crisis we must strengthen our social responsibility development of higher education and university mission, not the contrary. Many universities in the current period of economic crisis, from the economic interests of improper behavior, is the wrong development mechanism in which would lead development of higher education eventually losing momentum.Of course, the economic crisis on higher education development model is to be considered one of the most important factors, but not the only one. Development mechanism of higher education has its own laws, which is intrinsic, dynamic link to socio-economic, political, and cultural. If we ignore it, higher education can not be civilized heritage, innovation and knowledge in order to promote harmonious social development.
