A Study On Rational Patriotism

Since 1990's, the Chinese youth group, especially a few of college students shew out some irrational patriotism mood. Gradully, this irrational patriotism mood is becoming more and more intensely these years. People realize this irrational mood has the blind and provisional characteristics. So more and more people begin to think over contemporary patriotism. In the economic globalization times, how to express patriotic enthusiasm, and make the patriotism to give play the biggest effect? More and more people start to discuss this question, and form a concept"Rational Patriotism".I analyse the concepts of patriotism and rational knowledge, at the same time,I analyse the ralations of reason and feeling. based on these analysis, I think, rational patriotism is guided by reason, people reflect the simple feeling of loving the motherland rationally, through logical thinking and reasoning, in order to achieve the biggest national interests.Through analysing the connotation and extension of"rational patriotism", and the situation at home and abroad, I bring forward the values of"rational patriotism", defending the motherland's central and long-term benefits is the fundamental standard. In the field of cognition ,we should follow the principle of advancing with the times and keeping objectively and fairly. In the field of behavior , we should not only abide by the law ,and also follow pragmatic and open principles.Students have all kinds of irrational patriotic performance. I carry out investigation and research, pointing out reasons of formation of the irrational mood. The age psychological characteristic of students is one reason, environmental change at home and aboard is also the influecing factor. At the same time,our mass medias and school education are also important reasons. For these reasons, I think we must do two aspects of work to carry out patriotic education. First,we should srengthen to build educational content of rational patriotism, for example,broadening international perspective, clearing national interests, and bearing the responsibility of great powers. Second, we should innovate upon the teaching methods of rational patriotism.
