To explore the psychological characteristic of average -achieving students, the relations between achievement goals orientation and psychological health status were compared by using questionnaires across 563 average-achieving students in Anxi. Results indicated that the average-achieving students? learning goals orientation were remarkably higher than performance goals orientation. Their learning goals orientation differed remarkably in grades and their performance goals orientation differed remarkably in sexes and subjects. Both their learning goals and performance goals orientation, however, had no remarkable difference in schools. in Anxi, 9.59 percent of average -achieving students had some psychological healthy problems, in which 0.37 percent had serious psychological healthy problems. These psychological healthy problems were mainly reflected in obsessive compulsive , hostility and interpersonal sensitivity. The average -achieving students 憄sychological health status differed remarkably in grads and schools, whereas unremarkably in sexes and subjects . Different kind of achievement goals had different influences on psychological health: the average-achieving students with high learning goals orientation were the most healthy, but those with high performance goals orientation were the most unhealthy, particularly which had more symptoms such as obsessive compulsive , interpersonal sensitivity, anxiety, etc. It was revealed that in order for improving the psychological healthy level of the average-achieving students, it was much important to cultivate their learning goals.
