As time goes into 21~~ centrary, the world enters the era of information characterized by the innovation of Sciences and technology, the propargation and application of information, and knowledge based economy. The vast application of computers in every field and aspect is the most striking feather of this age. Apparently, reform the traditional mathematics education with computers is the demand of the development of the society and the new era and the education methodology, the mathematics curriculum, and relationship between the learners and the teachers will all change dramatically. Reforming mathematics education with computer and technology science is the task of the new era. This thesis will cover the historic development of the computer aided mathematics education, discuss the characteristics of the mathematics education in the age of knowledge based economy, and investigate the effects, functions and applications of computer science and information technology in the modern mathematics education. In the first chapter, I will summarize the historic development of the computer aided education, the main features of the knowledge based economy, and most important education theories affecting modern education reform such as the ancient Chinese education philosophy, 2 M\STER S THESIS child梒enter theory, constructionism. To reveal the actual effects and the acceptance of the application of computers in the general mathematics education, the author performed a questionnaire examination among high school students in Xiantao City, Hubei province. The results of this survey constitute Chapter 2. Chapter 3 discusses the reform of mathematics education initialed by the development of computer science and information technology. The methodology and the common software applications are covered in Chapter 4. Chapter 5 investigates the effects, functions the advantages of the mathematics education softwares. In Chapter 6, the existing misunderstandings and problems in wide applications of computer to aid mathematics education are analysis and possible solutions are suggested. A wide support and vast application of the computer for general mathematics education and the education of other fundamental subjects is called from the related government departments and the school administrators, and a mass of teachers.
