Taijiquan is one of the excellent pugilism in China. During the long emergency and development, adapting to the needs of the society, it has gradually changed into a mixture for self-defence, body-building and cultivating one's moral character. Taijiquan is not only a relaxed traditional sport conforming with the physical regularity, but also a wonder among the Chinese broad and profound culture. Taijiquan can totally promote national quality and healthy level. Exercising Taijiquan is beneficial to body-building, cultivate one's moral character and prevent and cure disease so that it can promote people's physical qualities of energy, flexibility, sensitivity, balance, etc. As a part of the traditional culture, Taijiquan is closely related to philosophy, medicine, military tactics, aesthetics, etc. Therefore, learning to exercise Taijiquan will help us to know the traditional culture and unobtrusively influence the trainee to enhance their scientific knowledge and moral character.Plan of fitness for all is a kind of sport plan lead by the country, supported by the society and participated by all members. Fitness for all is the whole people's career and is the central symbol of the sport socialization. The aim of plan of fitness for all is concordant with the body-building function of Taijiquan. Body-building culture happens to hold the same view with thq~ enhighting and decrease function of Taijiquan so that the Taijiquan becomes the first-selected item in the national keeping-fit activities.Taijiquan is a sport item with abundant cultural basis, typical Chinese traditional philosophical element and ethical idea. With Taijiquan being the core, it is a plausible way and also fits our national conditions to use its cohesive force to construct the content system of general body-building. However, there also exist some problems in the process to develop the Taijiquan activities, such as, the unitary participants' group, apparent re~iona1 differences, the individual differences of the exercising effect, etc. Personally I think that all these problems can be solved by such ways as adopting Taijiquan in the primary and middle school PE teaching, spreading it in the countryside and reinforcing the teachers' construction. And finally people will know Taijiquan, love Taijiquan and exercise Taijiquan.The predecessors have made a lot of research about Taijiquan, concentrating on its characteristics and functions. But there are few monographic studies of the relation between Taijiquan and general body-building, On the basis of the predecessors' achievement, I emphasized my thesis on this point. I hope sincerely to provide some references for people to know more about Taijiquan, steadily spread and popularize Taijiquan so as to act out the plan of fitness for all successfully.
