| Education is a social activity of cultivating people ,which have three characters of purpose,plan and organization.It's more and more obvious that higher education has a direct effect on nation's development.Meanwhile,because of the direct relationship between higher education and social development ,it is more and more urgent to reform and adjust higher education .It became a focuse how to bring into play it's social service function to make it real service station,shoudering the responsibility endowed by history.American high school play a important role in social service function in history,and make a great contribution to development of American capitalism and set a example for the development of other nation's high school.Undoutelyjt's very meaningful and useful for reformation and development of our high school to research social service function of American high school.So the article explored the course of forming and development of social service function of American high school and seek the law of it ,in order to get some beneficial experiences and lessons for our social service function of high school from it.This article is made up four parts:Firstly,this article introduced the start of social service function of American high school.lt including the establishing Pennnsylvania institute and Virginia University was set up. The forming of this idea symbolized that the function of social service formlly acted as one of the three roles of American high school. This procedure set up a new model which reflected practical educational values of American and developing tendency of the worldwide high education,indicating the new era of high education is coming.During a half century, from Morill Act to Cornell University to Wisconsin Idea,the social service function of American high school was set up afterall .From then on ,the traditional and separated systems was transformed to be public servicestation.Thirdly.it introduced in details about the development of the social service function of American high school.Including (1) Social service of community college.Community college developed Wisconsin Idea,esp,after the second war it meted the all kinds of needs of community;(2)The cooperation between high school and enterprise.lt symbolizied the social service of American high school have transferred from the period of simple knowledge and manpower output to the period of practical operation.lt strengthed social service;(3) interactive university.The formity and development of interactive university symbolized the high level of the social service function of American high school.Finally the article analyze and discuss the reasons for development of social service function of American high school.
