This thesis draws our attention to offering a course of literature in films and on TV in high school English teaching with the intention of providing new insights and perspectives for foreign language teaching practice. On the one hand, Language is used for communication and it has sound. On the other hand, persons qualified in English are in great demand in the developing country. In order to lay a solid foundation for further studies and to meet the demands for talented people in different fields, high school English teaching, as a fundamental part of education, has the duty to vary the English teaching approaches and improve the teaching contents so as to raise the efficiency.To start with, we can see in the thesis the importance of offering the course in high school English teaching: from situation abroad and at home, from the four basic skills to the importance between language and culture, from the present visual-oral teaching in high school to the use of modern educational techniques in high schools.Besides, the course is a symbol of improving teaching. It has such advantages as: 1. teachers playing a leading role as well as students as the main part in the teaching process. 2. authentic and communicative. 3.combination of language knowledge skills and culture.What's more, the writer is not blind in offering the course. On the contrary, it lies on the following theories. On the part of socio-linguistics, it gives high school students the opportunities to learn the propriety of language in different social situations. In psychology, it can stimulate the students' sense of hearing, sense of sight and so on by the pictures, sound, words as well as the images provided the literature films to arrive at a good memory and high efficiency of what they have learned. But all these depend on the scientific design and careful implementation. Without them, we may not get to our aim. So in the thesis, there is a complete design with analysis of learners, clear teaching aim, selection of films andprocedures.Based on all the above, a series of data and a questionnaire have appeared in the thesis after one-term practice. They have showed us the fact that there is great possibility to practice the new teaching method, and with a bright future.But it is emphasized in the thesis that teachers should try to avoid taking the literature in films and on TV class as a place to enjoy foreign films.
