In recent years there has been a rapid development of network distance education in China and a series of achievements have been obtained. Originally only four colleges that launched network distance education, the number has now increased to dozens. People have made a great deal of researches on network education from various aspects, which have helped to add more knowledge to this now-born phenomenon. However, at present there have many problems to be further studied in network distance education. How to better ensure the quality of network distance education is one of the problems most urgently to be dealt with. Among the things that influence the quality of network distance education, the most central, most fundamental one is how to design the process of network distance education.Action follows one's mind. Teachers' ideas and views of teaching are often embodied in their designing of the process of teaching. In this thesis, the author first discusses systematically some basic ideas of teaching that should be properly adjusted in network teaching. The author argues that in network teaching receptive study and academic study should be combined organically into the course teaching; that in network teaching the center should not be teachers, nor students, but Communities of Learners consisting of teachers, students, and the things to be learned; that network teaching is not a learning activity that only happens in a virtual space, it happens in a condition which is a organic combination of virtual learning space and real learning space; network teaching should be supported by technology conditions, and be rooted in teaching.On basis of the foregoing discussion the author puts forward some feasible principles and concrete measures in the instruction process design in network teaching. The teacher should make overall and structural adjustments to the course system from the perspective of learning; in network Communities of Learners teachers' role and students' central status should be made clear. The author argues that in the instruction process design in network teaching, we should get a systematic, all-around understanding of the above-mentioned ideas, principles and measures, so as to optimize the effect of teaching.
