The proportion of ancient Chinese texts in Senior High School Chinese books is very large and the work of making notes is therefore of great importance. No doubt such work can show direct influence over High School students' understanding to our country's outstanding traditional culture. In view of that, such Chinese books have been revised to their fourth edition since 1983. In the four editions mentioned above, most notes are accurate, concise and popular, also each edition do much better than the former on the whole. Despite that, there are some problems left needing to discuss for some reasons.Focusing on translation and notes of word explaining, the author did a lot of research work to offer some useful references to the High School educational workers and note-makers as well. The thesis is composed of four parts. Part one, the preface, to sum up the importance and characteristics of such work and also the research object and methods adopted in the thesis. Part two, to analyse the part at translation which is far from faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance and also the part which should be translated but not concretely in the four editions. Part three, to analyse the part which is not accurate, concise and popular, also the part which should be explained but not concretely in the four editions. Part four, to generalize the conclusion from the collection of instances. Part two and part three are the main portion of the thesis.
