The qualities of headteachers in primary and high schools play a veryimportant part in Chinese education. This will decide whether the education cannurture proper persons with high qualities for our society. The first analyzes of thecurrent situation facing the headteachers are china has been witnessed the sharpsocial transition under the Market Economy policy which was emphasized whenChina entered WTO and effected deeply with the development of InformationTechnology; the new era demands original and creative persons who love study,know how to study and are full of humanism ideology. The education has beenchanging to nurture this kind of persons and the roles of headteachers have to makea change to meet the change of education. Then the author discusses the commonideas about the qualities of headteachers written in common education works.Finally, the author comes up with the following basic qualities of headteacherstoday: the scientific quality and humanism spirit, the ability of communication withstudents and others, the qualities for study and research, moral quality, the ability ofintrospection and the spirit of criticism, the information awareness and thepsychology diathesis. In the end, the author gives three ways for headteachers toenhance their qualities: learn from books and articles by themselves, learn fromtheir colleagues and attend lectures with high levels.
