Teaching the students how to study is an important way to improve the performance of the students and reduce the burden of the students. It constitutes a major aspect of the current reform of teaching as well. If we care about the growth and future of the students, we have to pay attention to "teaching the students how to study". Optimizing the geography study strategy of the students in middle school will form a solid basis for the lifetime study of geographic knowledge by students.Geographic knowledge is closely lined to the life and future development of the students. It is an important way to improve the inherent quality of the students, and therefore worth continuing study. This requires that the students grasp the method of how to study geography so that they will be able to insist continued study of geography after they leave school. As a result, geography teaching in the middle school should list teaching the students how to study as an import aspect of eudcation. The purpose of this thesis is to improve the geography study methods, teach the students how to study in order to improve their academic performance of geography. Under the guidance of the study strategy theory, this thesis focuses on close combination of the study strategy theory and the teaching of geography in the middle school, and includes new researches on the ways and models on improving the geography study methods for high school students. The theory part of this thesis discusses the reasons for formulating the steps of this experiment, and proposes a diagram illustrating the implementing procedures for improving geography study strategies. The implementation of this thesis consists of two processes: survey of study status and educational experiment. This experiment consists of three steps. The first step is to teach the studentsnecessary study methods and basic knowledge so that the students learn how to select appropriate study methods based on their own characteristics and the study program. The second step is to provide the students with chances and conditions for flexibly using study methods in order for the students to develop the ability of strategic study. The third step is to strengthen the students' ability of self-supervision on study so that the students are able to voluntarily and unconsciously develop the ability of control and adjustment of their study strategies, i.e., to develop a mechanism of adjustment and control of study. The theoretical basis for this experiment is the strategic study theory. This experiment involves new researches on memorizing geographic knowledge with high efficiency, organization strategy, intensive processing strategy and thinking strategy in the study of geology, and how to combine the basic knowledge strategy with teaching of geography classes. This is reflected in Chapter 2 of this thesis. My survey of the study achievements indicates that the average level of high school students' strategies of geography study is relatively low. This is reflected in three aspects: self-management of study, specific study methods and examination techniques. Therefore, education of study strategy needs to be strengthened. This justifies the necessity of this experiment, and in turn makes this experiment more pertinent. The major content in this experiment regarding study strategy education is determined in response to the problems reflected in my survey of the study achievements. The results of this educational experiment indicate that:Improving the students' study strategy level through basic knowledge education is able to significantly improve the academic performance of geography; Education on how to optimize the study strategy is most effective to mid-level students. Low-level students fail to show similar improvement. The reason, based on my analysis, is that the low-level students are aware of too little geographic knowledge. It is expected that if this experiment continues, the low-level students will improve dramatically as well; Combination of systematic guidance of stud...
