Social ideal means pursuit, assumption and forecasting of future social system and political structure by certain social class or individual. It is the core of four aspect of ideal content, which directs and controls the rest three aspects as moral ideal, professional ideal and living ideal. Contemporary university students are the main force in the future socialist modernization construction. Social ideal they hold directly affects the success of socialist construction. Therefore, at the beginning of new century, with the change of domestic and overseas situation, closely integrating with university students' real thoughts to enhance and improve their social ideal education is practically and historically meaningful. In general, the whole state of contemporary students social ideal is relatively good. Most students have set up correct social ideal. They have firm Marxist belief and social faith. And also, they are confident of modernization of our country, our party and our government. However, problems and deviation still exist among some students. They have no clear awareness of their social ideal, and even have some wrong thoughts in inner deep. There are deep internal and external causes of students' social ideal problems and deviation. Firstly, from students themselves, the lack of knowledge and experience, the simplicity and straightness of their thinking mode and the weakness on discriminating make them easily influenced by the outside. Secondly, from social environment, peaceful evolution of western countries, depression of international communist movements, rapid development of internet, problems and contradictions in the transitional period of our country challenge and threaten higher social ideal education. All these bring about difficulty and disadvantageous affect on setting up correct social ideal for university students. Thirdly, from higher education, the goal of social ideal education emphasizes more on its pragmatism than on its direction. In addition, the education content is a little backward. The theory is not well connected with reality. Teaching approach is too simple and the teaching technique is out of date. The general quality of teaching force needs to be improved urgently. Lastly, from family education, harmful family education always reduces positive result of higher education or even makes it no use, which leads to their perplexed and slant attitudes toward social ideal. Thus, what we should do at present is to explore the countermeasures of enhancing and improving university students' social ideal education. Firstly, to combine theory with practice, highly hold the great flag of Deng Xiao-ping Theory, and strengthen its work of entering class, mind and teaching materials. Secondly, give consideration to both consolidation and construction, occupy ideological field firmly, and strengthen "two courses" education field and Internet field. Thirdly, closely unite school and family, qualify education environment. Fourthly, concentrate on both reorganization and reinforce, improve the general quality of teaching force, establishing a force with firm political position and exquisite professional work. Fifthly, to carry on both heritage and creation, keep improving teaching approach so as to strengthen the real effect of social ideal education.
