| In 1982, China's Social University, the first private higher institution in China, came into its establishment. Hence, it draws the curtain of Chinese private higher education. After 20 years of struggles, Chinese private higher education has made much progress and come to play an important role in Chinese educational history, so to speak, it has made great contribution to a new educational system in China: state universities and colleges acting as a key role and private ones as supplement.This text, based on the actual operation, combines with the case study and aims to explain the basic reasons of the rejuvenation and development of private universities and colleges. It points out the challenges that private education has to meet with and the problems it needs to solve. Through studying and comparing the experiences of running a university or college both at home and abroad, this text has proposed some favorable measures helping develop our private higher education in a healthy way.We should take positive and effective measures to push forward the Chinese private higher education. Chinese governments should further emancipate their mind, change their ideas and make a big step in encouraging the development of private higher education; in the second place, they should perfect the laws and regulations of private education system, improve and promote the outside industry environment so to help the private institutions step on the right track and thus develop healthily and smoothly. On the other hand, the private universities and colleges themselves should establish a scientific management system and operational mechanism of their own, with advanced ideas and full awareness of the importance of education industry. In addition, they should realize their accurate position, lay emphasis on education quality and characteristics of running a school. We should attract foreign high-quality education resources and accelerate the development of e-education.
