A Study On The Interactive English Teaching In High Schools

It is known that Chinese students have spent much time learning English, but the result is not very satisfactory. Many Chinese students cannot speak English well or have a fluent talk with foreigners even after several years' study in English. Educators have to examine the problems in our English teaching and learning. They have reached consensus that the traditional way of teaching, which is devoid of communicative nature, and students' inactive participation in the English class are two major factors that have resulted in such a situation.Now more and more teachers and linguistics researchers have regarded the Interactive Approach, which is characterized by its communicative nature, as an effective way to overcome the problems in our language teaching and have come to realize the urgency and importance of training learners to acquire the ability to communicate.The purpose of this thesis is to research into the interactive teaching of English in high schools in China both theoretically and pragmatically in the hope of proving the following assumptions:Interactive Approach is an effective way to solve the problem that has troubled our English teaching and learning for a long time as mentioned above, since this approach is based on scientific theories concerning child development, cognition, motivation, social cohesiveness and interdependence and, above all, on the interactive nature of language.Appropriate strategies based on the principles of linguistic interaction can effectively develop students' interest, stimulate their motivation, and facilitate their active thinking and involvement in classroom activities so as to develop their English competence in real-life communication.
