The research used a method of questionnaire combination with eye view movement experiment to investigate the effects of illustrations in new mathematic textbook of primary one grade. By means of questionnaire of teachers in primary schools, I found out: There are still have some bad illustrations in the new textbook although most of the illustrations of the textbook are satisfying; The experiment of eye view movement aimed to discuss the function of illustrations with different backgrounds for pupils to understand mathematic problems. Its results according to the indexes of reading comprehension and eye view movements showed that: The primary students had a better comprehension on pictures with backgrounds than pictures without backgrounds whatever the reading material is easy or not; The complex backgrounds of illustration improved the students' comprehension on more difficult mathematic problems and simple backgrounds of illustrations helped students to solve easier mathematic problems; The effects of illustrations in the new mathematic textbook of this edition is good.
