Work-family conflict (WFC) is a particular type of interrole conflict in which the role pressures from the work and family domains are murually incompatible in some respects. Work-family conflict is bidirectional and we conceive of work-family conflict as having two components: work-to-family conflict and family-to-work conflict. Many researches strongly suggest that WFC is related to both individual's physical, mental health and to quality of work and family life.Based on the review of and comment on the concept and theories of work-family conflict and the current research situations, the paper made a tentative study on the structure and the demographic characteristics of senior middle school teacher's work-family conflict in Henan Province, and examined the relationship between work-family conflict and social support.In writing this paper, we designed a Work-Family Conflict Inventory, which had been proved to be of good reliability and validity. Data were gathered from 299 married senior middle school teachers in Henan Province. The main results are as follows:First, the structure of work-family conflict include two aspects: work-to-family conflict and family-to-work conflict. The results from factor analysis indicated that Work-to-family conflict came from work stress, work behavior spillover and resource conflicts. Sources of Family-to-work conflict consisted of psychological factors and behavioral factors.Second, by using ANOVA and T-test, we find out that there is no significant difference between male teachers and female teachers on WFC levels. And so do teachers who have different work types. There're significant differences in many demographic respects of work-to-family conflict, including length of teaching, professional titles, teaching classes and family structure, and so on. However, these differences didn't exist at a level of family-to-work conflict.Third, the results indicated that global social support is negatively related to both work-to-family conflict and family-to-work conflict. Objective support is negatively related to family-to-work conflict. Coefficient of correlation between subjective support and work-to-family conflict wasn't significant, and so are both subjective support and family-to-work conflict. Usage of support was very significantly related to work-to-family conflict.According to the research results, some pieces of advice on relieve and balance the work-family conflict are suggested.
