It's common for us to know that if one wants to grasp a foreign language he should deal with pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar first, then deal with listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating. All of these components are very important for L2 learners. Relatively speaking, the most difficult thing is grasping the vocabulary of the foreign language. As we all know, language can't exist without vocabulary, we can't teach a foreign language without teaching vocabulary. When we read, we can't move on fluently without a certain quantity of vocabulary. The famous linguist Wilkins has confirmed in Linguistics and Language Teaching that we can't admit the view that grammar is more important than vocabulary. In fact, we can transmit limited information without grammar. However, we can transmit nothing without vocabulary.With the widespread of English application, entrance to WTO ofChina, the study of English has become one important part in our study, working and daily life. The English study is not only the need for an examination, but also the need for communication, development of economics and understanding the word. Only bygrasping the important components——vocabulary, can we have thechange to realize all these activities.At present, because the proportion of reading comprehension is increasing in English studying, more and more students think that it is waste time to learn vocabulary. So do the teachers. During the teaching process, little time is spent on vocabulary or the vocabulary is taught under a teaching process lacking of reliable theory and effective method. In fact, the position of vocabulary becomes more and more important, so the problem of teaching vocabulary needs solving badly.Many linguists and researchers have found many effective vocabulary teaching methods. Jan H.Hulstijn leads off with a discussion of keyword mnemonics. James Coady argues that proficient second language users acquire most of their vocabulary knowledge through extensive reading.Contacting with the practice of English teaching in Senior Middle School, intending to cultivate the learning ability of students, this paper is of the opinion that some effective and reasonable methods should be concluded.English has not only the largest vocabulary, but also the most synonyms in the words. To grasp a large quantity of synonyms cannot only help the student to study English but also grasp the differences between them. At the same time, teaching the vocabulary by antonyms, polysemy and homonymy can help the students to enlargethe number of vocabulary. There are many rules of the usage of some words, such as some verbs should be added with Subjunctive Mood, some should be added with Infinitive, Gerund or both. They have the same meaning or different meanings. When teaching with these kinds of collocation, the teachers can help students grasp the vocabulary easily and correctly. This paper wants to introduce some easy remembered vocabulary teaching method to change the students' mechanical vocabulary learning method, help the students to find an effective learning method which is suitable for themselves.
