A Research On Goals Of Geography Skills For Middle School

Attaching importance to the development of student's GS (Geography Skills) has been one of the important trends of curriculum reform of international geography elementary education since 1990s. The structure of GS, the evolvement of GS goals, the tactics to develop student's GS were studied in this thesis, based on the theories of pedagogy, psychology and curriculum and instructing, using the GS goals of geographical curriculum standards for middle school as the main research objective. The content included four parts: theoretical research on GS, the evolvement of GS goals for middle school in China, comparative research on the active GS goals of other countries and the areas of Hong Kong and Tai Wan, tactics to develop student's GS.This thesis decomposed the GS systemically, firstly the definition and classification of the GS was analyzed, the basic skills in instructing objectives was depicted, then the GS of the inner and abroad were introduced. On the basis of that, the category of GS was defined, and the three kinds GS were constructed: elementary GS, expansive GS and exploring GS. Geography knowledge, GS and geography ability made up a co-relative, co-proceeding and co-transform system of knowledge and capability. The recognition about the relationship of the three objects redounds to the understanding of the GS.GS goals were the important components of the geographical curriculum standards for middle school, the standards were changed with the evolution of the geography education aims, synchronously the GS changed too.
