There's no doubt that vocabulary teaching is pretty vital in teaching English, and we've come to realize the importance of understanding target language culture and developing cross-cultural skills, which is an increasingly acknowledged aspect in the teaching of foreign languages in high schools. Yet incorporating the teaching of the target language culture with vocabulary remains neglected. This thesis is composed of two parts. In the theoretical level, it reveals a variety of definitions of culture by people, the cultural conflict between the oriental and west countries, the relations between culture and language (vocabulary). In the practical level, the thesis has talked about the lack of culture consciousness seeping in while teaching English vocabulary traditionally, and introduced and analyzed some principles of leading in culture in teaching vocabulary, and then has introduced several effective strategies of teaching vocabulary and culture, providing various examples to demonstrate the approaches used in teaching practice. In the end, the author has also proposed a way of leading in culture in teaching vocabulary via focusing on teachers'recharging themselves.
