Nowadays, in the knowledge economy and information economy age, information and technology have been core factors in the development of economy taking the place of traditional economic factors such as resources, common labor and capital. Creation becomes the most flourishing economic activities. The advanced cities in the world have stepping into the "creative city" or "knowledge city" stage successively. As a result, in the new round of international urban competition, the cities which possessing of sufficient talents and better research platform will become the leaders of world cities. College city—the complex of dense talents and perfect research conditions become more and more important in the socio-economic development. What's more, most of the world-famous Science Parks have grown up in the basis of college city, such as Silicon Valley, Research Triangle Park of North Carolina and 128 highway region in the U.S.A., Tsukuba town of the Japan, Cambridge town in the U.K., Hsinchu town in Taiwan province of China.In these backgrounds, an upsurge of college city has sprung up in our country since 2000. There are more than 50 college cities in the whole country now, their developing step and area scale are astonishing. However, the college cities in our country are rather spotty and have many problems for misunderstanding and lack of research. Therefore, it is greatly necessary to figure out the meaning of college city, to benefit from experiences of international college cities, to sum up models and characteristics and to analyze specific problems in the practical construction of our country's college cities. Valuable ideas have been put forward to assist the development of college cities in our country.The full paper is totally divided into seven chapters. The introduction part introduces the backgrounds, significance, relevant research, research methods and frame of the thesis. Chapter one analyzes and defines the intension of college city. Chapter two presents the international experiences of college cities, in the case of Cambridge college city and Oxford college city of the U.K., Tsukuba University city of Japan, Cambridge college city of Boston in the U.S.A. Then analyze the revelation for our country's college cities. Chapter three discusses the backgrounds of college city's rise in our country in great detail. Chapter four introduces the types and characteristics of our country's college cities briefly. Chapter five analyzes and summarizes spatial models of our country's college cities , and puts forward five types of spatial models of college city, in the basis of importing the concepts of college city. Then it analyzes every kind of spatial model of college city in brief. Chapter six, introducing New economic growth theory, analyzes it's regional interactive effect from five aspects: high and new technology industry, tourist industry, service industry, labor quality and realty business. Chapter seven brings forward exploratory thinking toward the change of college city's spatial model through theoretical analysis and field research in the case of Songjiang college city.
