The Study On American Tenure System Of University In 20～(th) Century

The tenure system is an administrative system in American Colleges and Universities. Although it has been being criticized since the American Association of University Professors proposed the tenure system in 1915, it has contributed a lot in protecting academic freedom. Nowadays the tenure system, which is applied to guarantee academic freedom, is challenged by the development of the market-oriented economic. It has been a hot topic in the American education field that what should do to reform and perfect this system.This dissertation tries to explore the significance and function of the tenure system to enrich the studies of it through a review of the historic base for its establishment, an investigation of both theories and its practice, and an exploration of the cause for its reformation since 80th of the 20th century.
