As one of the most dominant language teaching approaches in the world today, the Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) is becoming a catchword in English teaching circles in China. The new national English Curricular Syllabus also recommends the use of the Task-Based Teaching approach in classroom teaching. With reference to the modern theories of TBLT and in a method of combining theoretical explanation and analysis with practical application, the thesis intends to probe into the TBLT theory and to give a practical introduction to the design and development of TBLT.This paper attempts to explore the theory and principles on TBLT and its practical application in JEFC (Junior English for China) classrooms. This thesis makes a study of the theory and practice of TBLT with the practical use of this approach as its aim. It starts from the theoretical foundations of TBLT and clarifies the communicative language teaching and the second language acquisition, from which TBLT originates. It discusses the definitions, characteristics and general models of TBLT. And much attention is also paid to the reasons for and advantages of TBLT. It cites some famous researchers' remarks about the definitions, components and characteristics of tasks. It also presents the reasons, advantages, general models of TBLT. Then it provides some important rationales about what needs to be considered carefully before a task is designed and puts much emphasis on some necessary principles about how to design all kinds of tasks.At the end of this thesis, the Presentation-Practice-Production (PPP) model and the TBLT model are discussed.
