Task-based teaching has been widely applied to English teaching. How to practice task-based teaching in listening and speaking English classes is a topic worthy of exploration. This paper studies the application of task-based language teaching in listening English class through some investigations made among the middle school students I have taught. The paper consists of five sections.The first section is about the definition and the theoretical foundation of task-based language teaching. It presents some discussion of the content and features of the task in order to clarify the application of task-based language teaching. Some basic theories relevant are discussed to reveal how task-based language teaching fits the conception of the curriculum standards.The second section is about the design of task-based language teaching which concerns some considerable factors. It also involves how to implement language skills, language knowledge, emotional attitude, learning strategies, and other teaching objectives.The third section is about the implementation of task-based language teaching, including how to achieve the change of studying methods in classroom learning and promote the formation and development of students' learning strategies.The fourth section is about the evaluation of task-based language teaching. It tries to provide some suggestions to help build an evaluation model for embodying the characteristics of task-based language teaching.The fifth section is about the investigation and analysis of the effectiveness of task-based language teaching practiced in my English class. The new educational concept advocates encouraging students to study independently, cooperatively and explosively. The design, implementation and evaluation of task-based language teaching always focus on the requirements for the students to develop an effective way of learning. Empirical studies show that employing task-based language teaching is helpful to improve students' studying methods and successful in training students' learning strategies.
