With the further acquaintance of teaching course, people begin to pay attention to what student's have known. We must know fully about ideas of students, and utilize their existed experience, take suitable way to develop students'original concept during teaching course. It is very necessary for the science education to investigate students'idea of the natural phenomena. It is a long way for the mankind to understand thermal phenomena, at the same time, there are difficulties for middle school students to understand thermal phenomena. We find that the molecular motion theory is one of the teaching difficult points of middle school. It is very instructive for improving teaching to make investigations deeply to this difficult point. This thesis includes nine parts. At first, we explained research background ,the research meaning , some relevant concepts , thesis theoretical foundations and research documents with which this study correlated; then, we investigate what the students know about molecular motion theory, and analyze students'level of understanding ;We carry out the science inquire teaching on this content in the middle school in order to seek whether there are difference between these two way of teaching; according to the results ,we explain the reason of difficulties and put forward some teaching advice. Finally, we reflected this paper. We use the problems correlated with the change of gas temperature, choose the middle school (8-11grade) students as the subjects, adopt the methods of the questionnaire and interview, To examine the level of middle school student's understanding about molecular motion theory and main factor influencing their understanding; the development tendency of understanding the theory with science studies; suggest some advice of teaching in terms of the result of study. According to student's strategies used in solving the problem, there are several strategies mainly as following: the strategy of relation about pressure and temperature, the strategy of analogy personalized, the strategy of relation about the gas'quantity (density) and the temperature, the strategy of macroscopic energy transformation or doing work, the strategy of transmitting heat which is generated by friction , the strategy of temperature is intensity physical quantity, the strategy of molecular motion, the strategy of expand with heat and contract with cold, etc. According to the cognitive strategy that students using and the degree of the problem solving, we divide the students' understanding level into four levels: sensation experience level, using a lot of strategies level; using one strategy but it is not scientific; understanding scientifically. We also discovered: there are few students who can really use the molecular motion theory to explain that problems after traditional teaching; With the rising of the grade, understand competence is reinforcing, especially there is obvious improvement from the 8th grade to the 9th grade and the difference is remarkable; Science inquire methods can improve students'understanding. Sum up students'performance there are several alternative frameworks of molecular motion theory , and analyze its reason produced .According to the conclusions of research, we put forward some relevant teaching suggestions on the physics teaching of middle school...
