With the development of globalization and China's entry into WTO international contacts have become more and more frequent. The society are in great need of personnel who have a good command of knowledge and are able to communicate with people from different cultures. How to achieve success in intercultural communication attracts people's great attention. This makes possible and necessary the new interdisciplinary subject intercultural communication. During intercultural communication, we meet from time to time culture shock , culture barriers and culture misunderstanding. Researchers and scholars conclude that the ultimate goal of foreign language teaching is developing students' intercultural communicative competence. However, because of the testing system, teachers' academic proficiency, students' attitude and so on, culture teaching has been ignored in middle-schools and students' intercultural competence is poorly developed.Since language and culture are inseparable , one cannot master the spirit of a foreign language without knowing its culture. Culture teaching should take on a high priority in language classes. In the hope of improving culture teaching in middle-school English classes, the dissertation suggests practical principles and effective techniques for culture teaching in middle-schools.
