It has long been a controversial issue whether a native language should be involved in a foreign language teaching and learning. In the early years, people relied too much on the native language and the translating method was widely used in language teaching and leaning. Nevertheless, in the past few decades, people have tended to exclude the involvement of the native language. Approaches such as Direct Method, Audio-visual Method, and Communicative Language Approaches have been in vogue all tending to limit the use of native language in teaching and learning. English teachers are encouraged to teach only in English during the 40-minute class to provide English surroundings for the students. However, the outcomes of English teaching are not so satisfying as expected. Although it benefits their oral work as a whole, the students' communicative competence is so poor that they cannot use appropriate English to communicate with others. We can find call such erroneous or inappropriate product resulting from the use of Chinese patterns or rules in English and call it Chinglish (Chinese English).
