Belonging to two different language families, English and Chinese differ greatly in thesystem of writing, language constructions and the way of thinking, the living habits and themeans of expression of language users, which is the essential cause of mother tongue negativetransfer in the process of language learning. Chinglish, as a result of Chinese negative transfer,is not idiomatic English. It is made by the English learners either in speaking or in writingduring the process of English learning.As far as foreign language learners are concerned, foreign language writing is an outputprocess after language acquisition or learning. Any mistakes which are made during theprocess are inevitable. The English learners in China will also make different kinds ofmistakes in English writing, of which Chinglish is the most common. The thesis aims to studyChinglish in senior high school English writing from the perspective of mother tonguenegative transfer.Basing on the referred theories, including Comparative Analysis Theory, Error AnalysisTheory, Interlanguage Theory and Language Transfer Theory, the author analyzes112piecesof English writing, which are collected from a class in Senior Grade One of Zhangzhou No.1Middle School, trying to categorize the Chinglish mistakes and having a text analysisaccording to the four categories of vocabulary, form, sentence structure and discourse bymeans of text analysis. There is no denying the fact that mother tongue negative transfer isone of the essential reasons leading to the Chinglish in English writing. Therefore, the keymethod to reduce Chinglish in English writing is to overcome mother tongue negative transfer.This thesis introduces some teaching suggestions and the ways to reduce Chinglish fromteachers and students respectively so as to improve English writing ability.
