| National spirits are defined as national consciousness and qualities characteristic of uniqueness, solidity and persistence formed in the course of the development of human history in a nation, spiritual motivation which encourages the subjects to strive for their desired goals, one of the richest, the most valuable and unique "nutrients" of spiritually moulding college students. Hence, it is cultivation and development of national spirits that amount to the important historic mission held by college education in modern times.Among the Chinese national spirits formed throughout hundreds of thousands of years, the essence cored by patriotism embraces the five spirits: unity, peace, diligence, bravery, lifting-up strong will. They are characteristic of co-existence, lifting up, keeping pace with the time, human orientation; they are vital subjects of the featured Chinese socialism; they are required by civil education and spirits & culture education; they are vital contents of academic national ethics education in modern times; they are spiritual nutrients through which college students inherit the past, get exposed to the tradition, blueprint the future and keep up with the time.Nowadays, academies take the burn of cultivating and developing the national spirits. Ethic education is required to be strengthened and improved. With the principle of human of human orientation, students are educated how to be a man and instructed what morality is. With the combination of curriculum reform, virtues and arts education are recommended to be enriched and strengthened. "Theory and Practice" class being reformed and improved, required subjects of traditional culture should be set up to strengthen virtues and arts education. Culture activities in campus such as science, art, environment, ideology, entertainment etc. will beneficially mould students' temperament and lift them up.
