In China, although much effort has been made in the high school teaching research and reform, little attention is paid to treatment of what is going on in the classroom as situated discourse. Less energy is spent on the analysis of the "interruption" in the classroom talk. However, the teacher-student interruption plays an important role in encouraging students' creativity. The dissertation is an effort to identify and analyze of "interruption" in classroom talk based on the data from the transcription of mp3 recording of 16 consecutive periods of lessons about "China Study" given by Maurer, the principle of South Lake International School. The theoretical framework of the present study is based on Dr Liao Meizhen's "A Study on courtroom questions, responses and their interaction: a linguistic perspective", particularly, Chapter Five: overlapping and interruption. The main paper consists of three chapters—introduction Of the "interruption" in classroom talk, the study approach, the analysis of the "interruption" phenomenon in class. Methodologically speaking, this study integrates the qualitative and quantitative research methods to support the presentation of a more complete understanding of classroom interruption. Thus, we come to the conclusion that the majority of classroom interruptions are cooperative in nature. Even when students do not agree with their teachers and interrupt their teachers, they intend to understand their teachers better.
