Based on the basic prerequisite that students' metacognitive capability can be fostered andfacilitated through some educational methods, the present study, with students' metacognitiontraining strategies as its studying objective, probes into the possibility and feasibility offostering students' metacognition in the settings of IT courses in middle schools.After a theoretical literature review of metacognition and the property of IT courses, thepresent study devised the teaching strategies and modes to foster students' metacognitivecapability, and conducted a six-month pedagogical experiment, in which a "metacognitivecapability scale in IT courses" is designed to collect the specific data of students'metacognitive capability in the process of metacognitive-capability-oriented teaching.The present research came to the following conclusions based on literature review andteaching experiment:1. The structural model of students' metacognitive capability is constructed on the basisof theoretical research.2. Chief tasks and fundamental principles of fostering students' metacognitive capabilityin the teaching process of IT courses are expounded, the metacognitive capability fosteringstrategies which is suitable for the nature of IT courses designed. Moreover, this study wentfurther to construct two metacognitive-capability-oriented teaching patterns, the"retrospection-solution" pattern and the "monitoring-solution" pattern.3. The effectiveness of the two above mentioned teaching patterns were tested throughteaching experiments.
