| Pattern is a predictable sequence with repeated units, and pattern cognition is a psychological process in which individuals process information such as the internal structure and basic units of a set of pattern sequences. There is a close relationship between early pattern cognition and mathematical thinking development of children.4-5 years old children are still in the pre-operational stage of cognitive development.Although they have a certain cognitive ability of pattern, they are weak in understanding the concept of pattern and searching for repetitive units of pattern. Therefore,it is necessary to find a teaching strategy to help 4-5 years old children better develop their pattern cognition.By combing related literature on multisensory learning,it is found that this learning strategy can have a positive impact on children’s cognition of patterns.Multisensory learning is a learning strategy that uses visual, auditory, tactile, kinesthetic and other sensory channels to carry out learning activities. This learning strategy will give learners more hands-on experience and direct operation opportunities, help attract learners’ enthusiasm to participate in learning activities, and mobilize their thinking agility,so as to improve learning efficiency. Therefore,by virtue of the characteristics and methods of multi-sensory learning, this study integrates the learning strategy into the pattern task,so as to explore whether the multi-sensory combined pattern task can promote the recognition and understanding of pattern sequence of middle class children compared with the common pure visual pattern test. This experimental study includes three types of mode testing tasks, namely visual mode testing, visual combined with auditory mode testing and visual combined with kinesthetic mode testing. The study was conducted in two middle school classes at a kindergarten in Shanghai.44 children in the class were randomly divided into group 1 and Group 2.Both groups underwent two tests of pattern cognition ability:the first was a visual pattern task test, and the second was a pattern task test combining multiple senses. In the multi-sensory combined pattern test task, children in group 1 performed the pattern task combining vision with hearing, and children in group 2 performed the pattern task combining vision with kinesthetic.Through recording and analyzing the scores and behavior of children in the two kinds of tests, this paper discusses the influence of multi-sensory combined pattern task on the pattern cognition of middle class children.Through the description and analysis of the pattern test results of the two groups of children and the statistics and combing of paired sample T-test,it is found that the scores of the two groups of children in the multi-sensory pattern test are higher than those in the visual pattern test, and the difference is significant. The qualitative analysis of the video data showed that compared with the visual pattern test, the pattern cognition, behavioral performance and participation of the two groups of children were improved in the multi-sensory pattern test.According to the conclusion of this experimental study, the following suggestions are put forward in view of the deficiencies in the current mode teaching activities in kindergartens: on the one hand, teachers should establish the correct mode teaching concept;on the other hand, teachers should also pay attention to the creation of multi-sensory integrated model learning environment,so as to improve the problems in model teaching activities. |
