Vocabulary teaching is the foundation of English teaching in junior high schools. Teachers should follow principles of Linguistics, apply varies methodologies to teaching practice, so that students can be more effective in learning new words. Words are the smallest elements in English, so vocabulary teaching plays a key role in English teaching. English consists of words; there would not be English if there were no words. Secondary school students will not be able to communicate freely with others in English without enough vocabulary. Therefore, the ultimate goal of vocabulary teaching is to help students to increase their vocabulary capacity as large as possible. This is one of the fields that teachers can use their creativity.The object this thesis is to study and explore how to increase students'vocabulary capacity at the stage of junior middle school. As a teacher who has practice English teaching for six years, I have studied vocabulary teaching strategy in both China and aboard, and generalized junior middle school English vocabulary teaching strategy and students'vocabulary study strategy. This thesis is divided into four parts. In the first part, the author introduces the importance of English today, the overview of English study of junior middle school students, and the overview of vocabulary study. In the second part, the author illustrates the existing problems in current vocabulary teaching, principles of vocabulary teaching, and conclusions that have been achieved in China and aboard in this vocabulary teaching area. In the third part, the author states the effective vocabulary study strategy that is generalized on her teaching experiences. In the conclusion, the author pointed out parts in this thesis that can be improved for later practice.
