Ideological and political education for undergraduates is getting more and more attentions from all social circles with the institution and promulgation of The Suggestions of Further Strengthening and Improving the Ideological and Political Education for Undergraduates from the Central Committee of CPC and the State Council and The Notification of Further Reinforcing the Situation and Policy Education for College and University Students from the Publicity Department and the Ministry of Education. Economic situation and policy education, whose relationship to situation and policy education is the particular to the general, is an important constituent of ideological and political education for college students. Many ideological problems are caused by economic relations and interests. Making full use of the fundamental principles of economics and those of ideological and political education, employing interest and economic analysis methods based on materialist dialectics, and clinging to actual economic backgrounds, economic situation and policy education develops pertinent instruction on economic theories, situations and policies based on the immediate interests of undergraduates and the economic phenomena they care about and attend to. Economic situation and policy education is aimed to help undergraduates analyze their economic situation correctly as well as understand and perform the economic policies of the country and the Party. Moreover, economic situation and policy education will enhance undergraduates' ability to analyze and grasp overall situation, and gradually assist them to form scientific economic situation and policy perspectives. To carry out economic situation and policy education is to further improve the actual effect of ideological and political education for college students and to implement and fulfill the requirements of The Suggestions of Further Strengthening and Improving the Ideological and Political Education for Undergraduates from the Central Committee of CPC and the State Council and The Notification of Further Reinforcing the Situation and Policy Education for College and University Students from the Publicity Department and the Ministry of Education.The thesis first illustrates several basic issues of economic situation and policyeducation, analyzes the discrepancies and similarities between education of economic situation and policy and that of situation and policy, points out the urgency of carrying through economic situation and policy education and indicates the education emphasizes particularly on methodology. Sticking to the actual ideological conditions of college students, the thesis then analyzes the positive and negative aspects existing in the major economic ideas of college students as well as the formation of such ideas from the outer environments and the inner characteristics of the students. The thesis further elaborates the basic contents of economic situation and policy education: the instruction of economic theories, situations and policies. The illustration of economic theories will help the students understand the fundamental thoughts and thinking patterns economics provides; the instruction of economic situation and policy is to assist the students to form correct economic situation and policy perspectives. Multiple approaches such as school education, home education, social education and self-education should be fully used to implement economic situation and policy education as well as build up and amplify its safeguard mechanism.
