The National Standard of English Curriculum points out that the new curriculum reform of English should transform the traditional English teaching which simply focuses on grammar and vocabulary teaching without paying attention to the communicative ability of the students into a new state of teaching which emphasizes the students' interest, life experience and cognitive level. Teachers should help students to experience, practice, participate, cooperate and communicate in their English class in order to develop the students' comprehensive competence of using English as well as an active emotional attitude and initiative thinking. Students are supposed to get a better understanding of the awareness of cross-culture and develop the ability of self study. So what should we do to reach the goal? After a long-term classroom observation and the analyses of the related theory, we hold that a sentimental and situational background plays a most important role in English teaching . We should try to create a harmonious teaching with emotion and situation to improve the efficiency of teaching. The author tries to recollect and learn from thetheoretical bases related to situational teaching. In addition, the author discusses and analyzes the present situation in our middle schools' English teaching. In the fourth part, the author draws a conclusion of the practice of English teaching based on a sentimental situation stimulating and inspiring students' learning. The last part mainly reviews the process of choosing this topic and writing the paper, trying to reflect the author' s teaching and bring up some questions that have not been deeply approached in this article.
