Reading teaching is a main part of the Chinese course, and it is a big puzzle to Chinese teachers about how to improve the quality and the effect of reading in Chinese teaching. Based on the Marx's humanism, theory of the educational psychology, theory of the reader and the accepted aesthetics, this research starts at the conception of "life-long education, leading education", combined with the characteristic of Chinese teaching, aiming at the need of the society's future and the change of the students' reading ways, that is, a Chinese teacher should make him/her have the motivation in readmg, i.e., "I am eager to read". Also they will have the interest-"I love reading";they will have self-confidence-"I am able to read";they will have their own ways to reading-"I can read". The question for this discuss begins from the analysis to the status quo of teaching reading, specifying the connotation and characteristics of autonomous reading and the strategies and etc. Furthermore, it highlights the feasibility and maneuverability of autonomous reading through the analysis to the case of teaching and testifying the rationality of the related theory.It illustrates that, autonomous reading has increased the students with their scores in Chinese, the competence in autonomous reading andthe awareness of reading consciousness have been enhanced a great deal. There are also significant changes in the students' attitude towards autonomous reading in feeling, such as interest, habit, confidence and so on. The individuals' integrated diathesis has been promoted a lot as well. Autonomous reading not only makes the students appreciate poems, essays, and the good taste of the books with words, but also makes them realize the affection, rational, and the articles without words. It has improved the students' development and self-restrained their personality. Therefore, the carrying out of autonomous reading in Chinese teaching is necessary, effective and workable at senior middle school.
