To improve students' English reading ability is one of the important goals of secondary English teaching in basic education in China. However poor reading performance among the majority of students is still a prominent problem in English learning in secondary schools. Therefore, the author offers the hypothesis that has been illustrated in the paper: reading-strategy training can improve students' reading performance effectively and enhance their self-study ability in English reading.The paper is divided into five chapters. Chapter one is the background information. Chapter two is the literature review which expounds the definitions and classifications of reading, reading strategy and learning strategy , and reviews the development of learning strategy study abroad and in China.
