From late 1970s, the focus of foreign language teaching research was no longer on how to teach a foreign language but on how to learn a foreign language, that is, changes have taken place in foreign language teaching research. After decades of constant efforts, a vital factor affecting the result of learners was found out by foreign language teaching researchers throughout the world, namely, learning strategies. So studying on learning strategies turns out to be the key to researching on how to learn.This dissertation begins with the purpose and significance of research on English learning strategy and its instruction in secondary school, illustrates that it is a demand of technological development, learning society and life-long learning to direct students to master English learning strategy in secondary school, emphasizes the value of English learning strategy to improve the effect of students' study. Defining learning strategy, English learning strategy and strategy instruction as well as expatiation of ready research on English learning strategy and its instruction in secondary school give great theoretical support to later questionnaire investigation and the result analysis. The whole English teachers and six classes of students in grade two were chosen randomly as objects of questionnaire investigation from three middle schools in the city of Weifang, Shandong province. They are Weifang No.2 Middle School, Xinhua Middle School and Weifang Foreign Language School. The status quo of classroom English learning strategy instruction in secondary school was analyzed based on two questionnaires, one is teacher-oriented, and the other is student-oriented, so that the valid information of the status quo was acquired. In accordance with the questionnaire investigation, several suggestions to the English teachers in secondary school were put forward. Hopefully, they may help the real implementation of English learning strategy in the classroom of secondary school.
