Self-efficacy refers to an individual' s belief that he or she has the capability to reach a certain level of performance or achievement (Tremblay & Gardner, 1995). Students' self-efficacy and their learning achievements are positively interrelated. So it is a very effective way to improve the students' study by enhancing the students' self-efficacy. Nowadays researches on students' self-efficacy in study are very popular in the fields of education and psychology. Self-efficacy in English learning is the specific incarnation of students' self-efficacy in the course of English study.This thesis analyses and approaches , from the following aspects, how to foster and stimulate the self-efficacy of Senior Middle School Students in English learning in the rural areas of China.Firstly, a questionnaire is carried out to investigate the conditions of senior students' self-efficacy in English learning in the rural areas.Secondly, the thesis analyses different elements that may affect students' self-efficacy in English learning on the basis of the questionnaire, including individual talks and theoretical analysis.Thirdly, it introduces the theory of self-efficacy.Fourthly, it puts forward some measures to enhance the target students' self-efficacy in English learning based on the first two aspects,Finally, it stresses the importance of stimulating and developing English teachers' teaching self-efficacy.The author sincerely hopes this thesis will serve as enlightenment and help for English teachers at Senior Middle School in fostering and enhancing students' self-efficacy in English learning.
