English, as an international language is playing an increasingly important role in communication in the world. The human relation needs the language, and the language has the rich cultural connotation. The cultural connotation is the concrete content of human language while the cultural consciousness is the foundation for human language relations. With the social and economic advancement, cultural diversity has a great influence on foreign language teaching. More and more countries require the inter-cultural awareness in foreign language teaching. The first edition "High School English Curriculum Standard " (experiment) issued by Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China in April, 2003 clearly stipulates the cross-cultural awareness cultivation into one of middle school stage curriculum goals.This paper, based on the targets and new thoughts of Cultural-awareness cultivating in the English Curricula Standards, first reviews the culture consciousness raise situations in domestic and foreign related foreign languages teaching as well as emphasizes the necessities of cultural-awareness cultivation in the process of foreign language teaching and learning in the middle school and also goes over the main research on the cross-cultural awareness both at home and abroad.
