Language is an essential tool for people to communicate,participate in social activities and achieve the comprehensive development.Language reflects cultural concept,human thinking,customs,values and behavioral paradigms etc.Therefore,to learn a language means understanding the country's culture,which is also in line with Senior High School English Curriculum Standards(test).In April 2003,China's Ministry of Education sets students' comprehensive ability as an overall goal,noting that comprehensive ability is based on cultural awareness But in the college entrance examination mechanism language teaching in high school is more knowledge-based learning and ignores cultural awareness.With the development of economy and society in China,the quality of citizens' foreign language needs to be further improved.To meet the students' needs in future and social needs of professionals,cultivating cross-cultural awareness in high schools is of great significance.This paper discusses the current situation of English teaching in high school based on the New Curriculum Standards,and analyzes the problems and their reasons from different point of views.The paper explores cross-cultural teaching strategies by comparing experiments,which confirms cross-cultural awareness training makes a difference to Senior English Teaching.Moreover,cross-cultural teaching can lay the solid foundation for achieving effective cross-cultural communication and reducing cultural discrimination.
