Developing Students' Scientific Thinking Ability By The Design Of Chemistry Experiment

The development of thinking ability is the base of all kinds of abilities of human. Chemistry is based on experiment, and chemistry experiment plays an important role in inquiring knowledge, mastering studying method of science, experiencing studying process and developing students' scientific thinking ability.The ability of experiment design is very important and also a kind of advanced ability. The design of chemistry experiment includes: make a plan how to solve a problem, choose experiment equipment correctly, modify experiment process and analyze the experiment data. Experiment design can make student study forwardly instead of passively; it also requires student should use what he knows neatly. So experiment design can provide good environment for the development of thinking ability. Thinking ability can be improved not by indoctrinating but by independent study and practice of individual.The author analyses the feasibility of developing students' scientific thinking ability by the design of chemistry experiment, then testify it by giving an elective to junior of the academy of Chemistry and Environment. The demonstration can be mainly divided into two parts, one is to give lectures about experiment design, the other is students' experiment design. At first, we give lectures about experiment design. We select the teaching mode and strategy carefully in order to make students master basic knowledge about experiment design, and at the same time, make their thinking ability increase. Then, students design the experiment on their own, and students' thinking ability increases in this process. Investigation shows that students agree with the teaching mode and strategy, and their thinking ability increases to some degree. So we think chemistry experiment design is a good way of developing thinking ability, but at the same time, we also degree the development of thinking ability is a long course, and it should be cultivated in daily chemistry teaching and studying.
