Reading is an important way for the students to consolidate the old language items and master the new ones and at the same time students can know a lot about the cultures of the English countries. The foreign language teaching aims to improve the students' reading comprehension ability, which has ever been mainly studied in how to cultivate, while recently, more and more attention is being paid to the reading strategies, since a person without reading strategies feel difficult to meet the need of the society as a result of the emergence of the increasing new knowledge and new information.This paper is about the research of the correlations between the reading strategies and the understanding of the articles of different levels. It is also studied the differences between the successful and unsuccessful students in using the reading strategies. Such methods as questionnaires, interviews and tests are involved, and SPSS is used to analyze the collected statistics.According to the result of the research, partial strategies are strongly correlated with the more difficult articles, whereas the whole strategies with the easier articles. The successful and unsuccessful students differentiated in the whole strategies. It causes the successful students can score higher than the unsuccessful ones in the reading tests. But there is no clear difference inthe partial strategies. The reading strategies can facilitate the students to improve their reading competence and reading efficiency, moreover, the more reading strategies the students have, the more intense confidence and the sense of achievement they get. Therefore, it is necessary to cultivate the reading strategies in Junior High Schools.
