Reflective teaching was originally rising in the western world in the 1980s, and has been paid extensive attention by China's education circles in the recent years, and also it has been a mark or slogan to centralize power of education reform. This paper aims to explore how reflective teaching is being used in the middle schools, by an investigation into 100 English teachers of 9 middle schools in Lanzhou city.Middle school English teaching is an interactive, dynamic and very complex process in which many implicit and explicit factors, dimensions and the mutual relationship between them are involved. Among them, the teachers' beliefs, teaching decision making, the role of the teacher, interaction in class and learning activities are the main making-ups, and they are also the main contents of reflecting teaching. In the study, teachers' beliefs decision making and teachers' role are mainly investigated into.Reflective teaching could be taken into effect by many approaches, including the most commonly used ones, such as teaching journals, lesson reports, questionnaires for surveys, audio or video recording of lessons, action research. The study, with 100 teachers of 9 middle schools investigated, aims to explore how reflective teaching is being used and functions in the middle schools, by closely combining the theoretical studies with teaching research and teaching practice.The paper consists of six parts: The first part is an introduction to the study, in which the background , the purpose and significance of the study are introduced .The second part is an review to the previous studies, in which the studies of reflective teaching home and abroad are introduced. The third part presents the theory foundations of this research, mainly introducing the reflecting thoughts on teachers' belief, decision making and teachers' role in the reflective teaching.The fourth part provides some information concerning the subjects, instruments, the procedure of the investigation , the data collection and statistical results of the research. The fifth part is a summary and an enlightenment to the future teaching.
