As is known to all, reading is a very important skill in English Learning. However, it is not easy for students to obtain the ability of reading comprehension, since reading process is related to many factors, such as schemata, cultural knowledge, vocabulary, grammar, reading speed, reading strategies ect. According to the modern reading theory, discourse is emphasized in reading comprehension and the reading models include bottom-up, top-down and interactive reading. Metacognition theory can be used in teaching reading, which has a good effect on reading teaching and reading practice. Besides, by training students to gain the metacognitive strategies we can help them to direct themselves in learning. So in teaching English reading, different factors should be taken into account and a variety of teaching methods are required to improve students' reading ability.The stage of reading is a process of cognition of language. Reading is helpful to strengthen and enlarge vocabulary, enrich cultural knowledge and improve the ability to use a foreign language.
