Improving reading ability of English is one of the important Englishlearning goals for middle high shool students,as well as one of the teaching goals forthe teachers in the teaching practice.After many years of English study, many highshool students even make no difference in English reading ability.Besides,thediscrepancy in reading ability among high shool students is widening,which is a mainproblem in senior high shool English teaching and a problem needing solvedurgently.In the thesis,after a survey is made among139senior high shool students anda few students have a talking,it is found out that not all students are aware of usingreading strategies even though some students use some reading strategies in thereading activities, which is substantial.In addition, few students realize the importanceof using reading strategies.Through survey analysis,students’ talking and experimentdemonstration, the problems in English reading activities among senior high studentsare analyzed and the relationship beteem reading strategy and reading ability isexplained to stress the necessity and measures of using reading strategies in thereading activities.By cognitive theory,language psychological theory,words readingstrategies,discourse reading strategies and context reading strategies,the practicalresearch on reading strategies and the English reading ability of senior high shoolstudents is made below.
